MIAMI: Eats
Besides soaking up the sun, I love to eat my way through Miami every time I’m there. Here are a few of my favorite spots!
Komodo
$$$$
Komodo is a Dave Grutman restaurant. If you don’t know who that is, he’s a BFD in Miami hospitality and nightlife. Komodo is one of those places where you’ll never know who you might see. Great for celebrity sightings and taking photos for the ‘gram, but also for SUSHI. Yum! Let’s just say this was where I celebrated my birthday a few years back. If you’re looking for an upscale dinner vibe, this is one you can’t miss. Oh, and reservations are a must.
Taquiza
$
Taquiza is a no frills taco joint that’s known for their signature blue masa, which they make daily. They hand press the masa into tortillas and tortilla chips. Their tortilla chips are like little tortilla chip pancakes, but still crunchy on the outside. Just this alone with the homemade salsa makes this spot worth it, but the tacos also hit the spot. When I went, a rainstorm set in for an hour or so and I could not have picked a better place to get rained in at. So so delicious.
You can’t leave Miami without having authentic Cuban food, and there’s no better place to do that than Versailles. Gotta get the “Ropa Vieja” and/or a Cuban Sandwich for sure. There’s also a bakery inside, where you can get Cuban pastries and a cortadito (a Cuban espresso) after your meal, as well as an ice cream parlor. The place is pretty large, but it’s usually always packed. Definitely worth the wait, but if you’re tight on time there’s also a to-go window you can order from to take on the road.
CH’I
$$$
CH’I is a spot I recommend for a group. It’s more of a party restaurant, so be ready to yell over the table to talk to each other (in a good way). The cuisine is a Latin and Chinese fusion, the drinks are great, and the songs never miss. You’ll be up out of your seat and dancing in between bites!
